If you love shopping and are planning a visit to the White Isle this summer don’t miss a trip to British Vogue Fashion Director Venetia Scott’s favourite shop, the sublime concept store, La Galeria Elefante. Here you will find a kaleidoscopic collection of art, homewares as well as some of the island’s very best in vintage and contemporary fashion and accessories.
Situated just outside the pretty town of Santa Gertrudis this irresistible concept store has the atmosphere of a bohemian but luxurious rambling 1960’s Ibiza finca and is a visual feast, bursting with colour-popping delights.
La Galeria’s philosophies are underpinned with the important message of giving back, and many of the pieces in-store involve NGOs (such as Key To Freedom in Calcutta and SEWA in Delhi) and charities and artisans across the globe in far off places such as Madagascar and Nepal. All items are made fully supporting, encouraging & empowering women as well as sustaining disappearing craftsmanship.
The store also has it’s own calming and tranquil wellbeing studio with a full timetable of classes. You can enjoy yoga and meditation all year round from some of the best teachers on the island, or book one of Jody’s restorative Gong Baths or a healing Sound Therapy session.
Huge hand carved wooden doors from a Rajasthani mansion mark the entrance to the store, and within the interconnecting cave-like rooms you will find a cornucopia of unique finds. La Galeria is on the radar of many of the key fashion influencers (Venetia Scott, Fashion Director of British Vogue pops in from time to time) for its incredible selection of rare vintage pieces which range from delicate Victorian and Edwardian wedding dresses to exquisite tribal treasures.
Victoria hand picks each label – this season key collections include pieces by Mes Demoiselles Paris, the whimsical casual wear by Magnolia Pearl, Ekà and exclusively to La Galeria, Péro, an outstanding collection of unique, hand-crafted pieces. Other ranges include Victoria’s own sought after collections of embroidered silks and velvets ‘Victoria Made With Love and Laughter’ (available for a second season at Urban Outfitters in the UK for Spring/Summer 2018) and ‘Sunny Day’ (a collaboration with her friend Penny McIvor of delightful bright and colourful separates using organic vegetable dye work and intricate embroidery). Back by popular demand each season are the timeless printed pieces like the cotton Kimono Dress, the Silk Pattern Trousers and of course the silk velvet butterfly embroidered Flying Jacket, a best-seller.
Victoria says ‘It’s the originality people like, a lot of the things we sell simply can’t be found anywhere else. People often say they feel like they’ve been on a journey when they come in here.”
Art and photography at La Galeria includes Ibiza-based photographer Jérôme Ferrière’s huge monochrome images of the island (from €900) popular with the island’s elite. Homewares available include homemade ceramics from South African ‘Wonki Ware’, embroidered vibrant cushions, blankets and bedding by the Self-Employed Women’s Association, a trade union that protects female workers in India. Accessories include Olivia Dar’s beautiful metallic leather bags, created in collaboration with Afghani refugees and jewellery including Victoria’s own designs and carefully sourced pieces from other labels such as reworked vintage label Circa Ibiza.
Also available under the ‘Victoria’ label are one-off new homeware pieces like the enchanting birds´ nest lamps and magnificent glass-mosaic signs.
