St Regis Vommuli Island aerial

Whether you’re looking for the world’s most instagrammable bathrooms, the most breathtaking bars for a sunset cocktail, the most extravagant spa treatments (caviar facial anyone?!), or the most exclusive suites in the world – the incredible St. Regis Maldives Vommuli Resort has you covered.

The resort is less than a year old, having opened in November 2016 with an eye-catching design inspired by nature – think lobster-shaped spas, whale shark-shaped bars and seashell libraries.

Here are some of the resort’s most spectacular offerings (it was difficult to whittle them down!)

Most exclusive hotel suite

The John Jacob Astor Estate: from $25,800 per night

The 1,540sqm John Jacob Astor Estate features glittering chandeliers; four-poster beds; three private pools; electric buggies; a 92sqm private infinity pool; a spa room; a mini theatre; a fitness area; and two connecting lagoon villas, each featuring their own private pool, pool deck, bedroom, and living area. Sleeping up to six people, the estate is split over two levels and with three bedrooms and bathrooms, and comes with its own dedicated butler.

Most extravagant spa experience

‘The Iridium Spa Legacy’ treatment: from $1,425

The uniquely-shaped lobster Iridium Spa is the largest overwater spa in the Maldives offering an array of indulgent treatments – including the Caviar Journey (using the finest caviar to firm and hydrate hydrate the skin). The spa recently introduced its four-day Iridium Signature Legacy treatment, including four indulgent treatments and a bespoke wellness consultation, as well as use of the expansive hydrotherapy Blue Hole Pool – which uses heated seawater and an array of whirlpool jets to deliver curative physical and psychological benefits.

Best bar for a sunset cocktail

The Whale Bar’s distinctive shape recalls the majestic whale shark. Its distinctive lounge opens directly onto an open-air terrace, where plush sofas and armchairs invite guests to admire seductive views of the sea and Vommuli Island’s immaculate reef. Guests can savor delectable tapas and locally-sourced seafood as well as hand-selected wines and spirits while admiring the unfettered views of the Indian Ocean.

Most Instagrammable bathrooms

When it comes to soaking in the tub – The St. Regis Maldives offers the ultimate in relaxing settings. Bathtubs in the Overwater Villas, Family Villas and the John Jacob Astor Suite (above: left to right) offer views of the turquoise sea with large windows, which open to allow the warm sea breeze in to soothe away any tensions.

Best activities for teens

Sea-bobbing in the Indian Ocean

The Vommuli Dive & Watersports Centre provides offers a wide array of active pursuits from snorkeling to deep-sea fishing and windsurfing to speed boating. The sea bob offers underwater discovery of the crystal-clear waters, available for 15, 30 or 60 minute periods. It’s a nautical vehicle which allows its users to travel down to the seabed and explore what lies beneath the surface of the glittering ocean.
