Wellness in the Mountains at Victoria-Jungfrau Grand Hotel & Spa Interlaken

Victoria-Jungfrau Grand Hotel & Spa Interlaken

A recent study in PLOS One, by the University of Innsbruck in Austria has revealed that longer workouts rather than shorter high intensity workouts can improve people’s moods, reduce anxiety and encourage participation. The research also found that the benefits were greater if the exercise took place outside rather than in a gym. With this in mind, I wanted to recommend Victoria Jungfrau Grand-Hotel & Spa, a luxury 150 year old hotel which sits between two lakes at the foot of the snow-capped Jungfrau Massif in Interlaken, Switzerland and offers a range of outdoor activities for guests, each within a picturesque setting.

Activities on offer include hiking and cycling in the mountains to help improve overall health. Experiences include a combined boat trip and hiking trail to the world-renowned Giessbach Falls, the lakeside promenande between Spiez and Faulensee and the ridgeway between Ringgengerg and Oberried. A hiking trip to the Schynige Platte small mountain ridge can also be arranged by the hotel so guests can breathe in the fresh mountain air. Cycling enthusiasts can embark on a mountain adventure, racing through the stunning Swiss Alps which provide the perfect backdrop.

Following these active experiences in the great outdoors, guests can rest and rejuvenate at Victoria-Jungfrau Grand Hotel’s Nescens Spa. The new spa, which opened last year, offers a number of exclusive and ultra-individual Nescens programmes related to health management and focusing on the overall Nescens better-aging philosophy of living better for longer, concentrating on prevention not cure. The spa at Victoria Jungfrau Grand-Hotel is the second Nescens Spa in the world, the first having opened at La Réserve Geneva last April.

The Nescens Better-Ageing programmes start from CHF3200 (approx. £2,766) per person, based on a four-day programme. The rate includes the Nescens Better-Ageing check-up (with a doctor, osteopath and dietician), daily physical activities and treatments and three personalised healthy meals per day.

A Deluxe Double Room at Victoria Jungfrau costs from CHF849 (approx. £620) per night including breakfast, admission to the Nescens Spa, free use of the fitness centre, complimentary wifi internet access and is based on two sharing.
